The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, of the Third Order Regular of St Francis of Assisi was founded in Menzingen - Switzerland, in the year 1844, by Rev. New Mission of the Holy Cross Sisters at Deraniyagala
The sisters of the Holy Cross began their new mission at”Kolping Centre” Deraniyagala in the diocese of Ratnapura on the 5th of February 2009. They collaborate with the priests of the Society of Jesus(S.J.) to work among the poor and marginalized people of the plantation workers.
The present ministries are: - Hostel for young school -going girls.
- Pre-school education
- Informal education
- Pastoral care covering 23 estate parishes.
New Mission in Pakistan
The sisters moved into Holy Family Hospital at Karachi- Pakistan on the 14th January 2009. Besides their engagement in the hospital they also work in motivating and empowering young women in the School of Nursing. They actively involve in teaching and pastoral care of the students.
